Curious by nature and Curio by name, Curio Spirits use age-old ingredients to create quadruple distilled gin and vodka, which is adventurous, and packed full of flavour. Now in its third year, husband and wife team, William and Rubina Tyler-Street are now producing batches one hundred times bigger than the early days, when production took place in their very own kitchen.

In 2012 the couple set out to create bespoke, premium gins and vodkas. After investing in two small stills and a rotary evaporator, they spent time experimenting with flavours and fragrant botanicals, using natural ingredients including the likes of hand-picked Cornish samphire.  Once confident they had created spirits to the quality and flavour they had imagined, their first products went on sale in December 2014.

Their first year was all about growing organically in order to produce and deliver the quality products they are known for as well as investing in more equipment, including a larger still, larger mixing tanks and a shipping container for storage. In 2016 they took the next step, investing significantly on trade and consumer events to really showcase Curio Spirits in UK and Europe. Curio is now positioned in high-end retail outlets and export to Europe! Plans to extend the distillery and storage facilities are in the making so it’s all set to be a bumper year.

We knew that we could make a success of the business as gin was on a ladder of growth which has no signs of slowing down. For us, our ethos of provenance, using locally sourced handpicked botanicals has been a key factor in our success.” Explains Rubina.

Their geographical location plays a big part in the brand, using only pure natural spring water from the Cornish Spring Water Company and working with other local suppliers where possible. Cornish Cup, Curio’s newest product is sweetened with honey from Cornish bee-keepers, while the Rock Samphire Gin is flavoured with Kombu seaweed from The Cornish Seaweed Company.

All of Curio’s products capture a little aspect of their coastal location in Cornwall, from the light fresh sea spray to the wild aromas and love of natural, local flavours. This, teamed with a desire for adventure and to exceed expectations, captivates drinkers who love gin and vodka and ultimately, that’s what William and Rubina set out to achieve.
